Animated Holiday Videos

In 2021, we kicked off a new tradition: sending our clients a lighthearted, animated holiday video each year. Every animation challenges us to think outside the box, dream up something fresh, and create a little something fun to brighten the season. No two videos have the same underlying theme, and that’s part of the adventure. One of the best compliments we receive is hearing that clients look forward to our animations every year, which, of course, only inspires us to keep raising the bar.

This annual tradition showcases what we love most at Bowen Studios: high-end 3D animation and storytelling. The team’s hands-on, collaborative approach makes the whole process smooth and fun. We’re all about turning big ideas into visually exciting and memorable experiences. Oh, and keep an eye out. We’ve tucked a few Easter eggs into each animation. Let us know if you catch any.

2024 Animated Holiday Video “The Card”

Since we’re usually busy working “behind the scenes” to bring our clients’ visions to life, we thought it would be fun to create a holiday animation that pulls back the curtain, with a playful twist. Our journey begins in Santa’s workshop, where a festive pop-up card comes to life, crafted in the old-school style architects use to build physical models: think markers, X-Acto knives, and a lot of careful hands. To amp up the drama, we layered in some dark, whimsical music, something that feels like a cross between holiday cheer and The Nightmare Before Christmas. And of course, no good production would be complete without a few mishaps, so we wrapped it all up with a reel of animated bloopers to keep the spirit light.

2023 Animated Holiday Video “The Christmas Gift”

Starting with a beautifully detailed home we animated, we set the scene for a festive adventure: an animated soccer ball bouncing its way from room to room, with a few surprising kicks along the way. As the ball bounces through the house, we get closer to the reveal that the ball is the Christmas Gift, as it get perfectly kicked into an open gift box. The mysterious figure kicking the ball remains mostly out of sight, save for a fleeting glimpse of a hand at the start and a quick look at his back as the story wraps up. But look closely: throughout the animation, we’ve left subtle clues to the player’s identity. True soccer, or should we say, football fans should recognize who it is. And, staying true to tradition, we topped it off with a few animated bloopers for some extra holiday cheer.

2022 Animated Holiday Video “The Holiday Snow Globe”

Inspired by Wes Anderson’s signature filmmaking style with its precise, almost mechanical camera movements, we set out to create something a little ambitious: an animation within an animation, layered with live-action footage. Easier imagined than executed! The journey begins in our office, then dives deeper and deeper into successive animations, before finally returning to the real world, now with falling snow, as if the entire scene were tucked inside a snow globe. Sharp-eyed viewers will spot a few hidden Easter eggs along the way: a wandering deer, a loyal dog following the camera, and even a nod to last year’s holiday video. And true to our tradition of keeping things lighthearted, we wrapped it all up with a hilariously long list of credits at the end.

2021 “Holiday Video”

This was the animation that kicked off our tradition of annual holiday videos and set the tone for everything that followed. Styled as a playful “behind-the-scenes” look at making a holiday film, it featured a virtual scale model of a house, a bustling set crew, and even a director’s chair for good measure. We had a lot of fun blurring the lines between what’s real and what’s imagined. In fact, the bloopers ended up stealing the show! With this first project, we launched a tradition that challenges our creativity each year and, hopefully, brings a smile to everyone who watches.
